What is "Know Your Neighbours"?

"Know Your Neighbours" is a grass-roots community group in Seal, near Sevenoaks in Kent. The group is made up of anyone in the village who wants to get involved - individuals, clubs and societies, businesses, church and schools, parish council, and many others.
We organise local events through the year - fetes, street parties, Christmas events etc. - and we hold social gatherings, just so that people can get to "know their neighbours". There's no "committee" - anyone who turns up for meetings is welcome to help in any way they are able.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE, OR BE ADDED TO THE EMAIL LIST, contact Marion Gilchrist , who coordinates the group, or Anne Le Bas, who maintains this blog.

Update - Christmas is coming!

Hello Everybody,

Firstly, a huge 'Thank You' to all of those who supported the Pamper Evening in any way, last Thursday. It made around £400, which will be verified when David (SVA Treasurer) is back from his Indian hols. Along with the collection that the Friday Group has been making over the past few months, this will go towards paying for the batteries and a few new additions, to our Christmas lighting. The evening was very successful, and will certainly be repeated next year, as all therapists, stall holders and those 'pampered', have made it clear that they would llike to have more of the same. So... watch this space!

We have a reasonable group of able bodied young men, who have either volunteered, or been press ganged, into helping Annie and Sylv (our first volunteers as seen in September's Advertiser), to get the lights up in the High Street and on the green, home zones, etc. However, if you (and a ladder), are free on the morning of Saturday December 1st from 10am, you will be very welcome to join us and help.We are hoping to partake in some bacon sarnies when the work is done!

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Charlie of Charlie's Pilates, which takes place in the Village Hall on Tuesday mornings from 9.15 - 10.30. This is a great addition to the regular activities which take place in the village. To book your place, and pay, on a week by week basis, please visit her website, charliespilates.

We have an addition to the events for this month as well. The residents at Lavender Fields, our new care home on Seal Road (near the recreation ground), will be holding their first Christmas Fayre on ThuRsday November 22nd from 11am - 3pm. Thios is taking place in their cafe, and you will be able to purchase cards, gifts, toiletries, books, decorations and Sheila and Dot's Christmas crafts. Please do visit, support and get to see this wonderful facility for yourself! By the way, I am still compiling a list of potential volunteers to help out with various activities at Lavender Fields. If you are interested, please contact me.

Another addition, is that the Seal Cubs and Beavers Christmas Fair on December 1st, are asking if anybody would like to hold a stall for their own organisation at a cost of £10 per stall. They are also still looking for some extra help for their own stalls. If you can help with either, please contact Helen at Melonseal@yahoo.co.uk.

November update

Welcome to our November update for KYN!

Firstly, a couple of messages from Seal Parish Council.
There is currently a vacancy on the council, and elections will be coming up in May 2019.
The PC have recently updated the Parish Plan, which can be found on their website, www.sealparishcouncil.org.uk under the heading of 'Responsibilities', or copies are available from the library or on the parish notice boards.
Please take a look and maybe join the PC to make a contribution to parish life.

Seal Talking Village is expanding!
Our Monday afternoon sessions in Birch's, are proving popular, and we have had some very interesting afternoons, with lots of laughter thrown in! We would like to thank Ashley and her team, for making us so very welcome.
We now have two other sessions each week, both in the Church Hall.
The first will be on Thursday mornings, as part of Seal Tiddlers , and on Friday mornings as the regular Friday Group, have also agreed to be part of this initiative. These are great opportunities to come along for a friendly chat during the week. Both between 10am and midday.
There are also plans to have Talking Tables, in the beautiful setting of Lavender Fields, Seal's new care home, for the whole community to join in with , and possibly, some Saturday mornings in the library.
So - watch this space, and let's see the Talking Village grow in so many directions!
Talking Village has been attracting a wide range of people, including some who work from home, and perhaps, miss the human contact they would have in an office environment.

If you have an hour or so to spare, to help host these sessions, particularly on Saturdays, please contact either myself, or Anne le Bas .
